The company acquires, develops, leases, and manages about 1,400 senior housing and medical office properties in the U.S., Canada, and the U.K. Currently, senior housing properties account for about 60% of VTR's portfolio and medical and research assets for about 30% of the portfolio. These offices are located in 31 states, and 95% are affiliated with hospitals or health systems. The company acquired 153 new properties in 1H23 in a loan-to-own transaction. In 2023, about 40% of NOI comes from SHOP assets and 30% from medical offices and research properties. The company was founded in 1998 as a spinoff of Vencor, a healthcare services company. VTR also has an asset management business (VIM) with $5.5 billion under management. VTR shares are a component of the S&P 500. The company's market cap is $17.2 billion.

  • Market Update: PWR, PXD, VTR, KHC

    Stocks fell on Thursday on hotter-than-expected inflation readings. In February, headline PPI rose 0.6%, up from 0.2% in January and ahead of the expected 0.3% increase -- with nearly two-thirds of the increase attributed to a rise in prices for final-demand goods. A 4.4% rise in energy prices during the month was the main factor in the increase in final-demand goods, contributing over one-third of the increase. PPI rose 0.4% in February, down from 0.6% last month but ahead of the expected 0.2% increase. U.S. retail sales in February were up 0.6%, following the 0.8% decline in January. The Dow fell 0.2%, the S&P 500 was down 0.3%, and the Nasdaq lost 0.1%. Crude oil traded above $81 per barrel, while gold fell $18 to $2162 per ounce.
